Late start
I decided to leave a bit later than usual. Syracuse was going to be my destination now and the phone said it would be about 7 hours to get there. In the cold and wet, there was nowhere I would want to stop. The rain and cold was supposed to last all day.
My retro hotel in New Hampshire as I was leaving.
On the way out of town I ran into this couple walking their goats! Yes, those are goats, not dogs.
Interstate
Given the weather, I decided to ditch the little roads and hit the Interstate. The Interstate is faster and there are more people to help you if you run into trouble. Faster is colder though. At least with the higher speed will keep the fog off the helmet visor!
Vermont
I didn’t get a screenshot of a welcome to Vermont because I hit a wrong button before I could capture it. My cold weather gloves are bulky and that makes it harder. Vermont was as amazing as Maine! Of all the states I’ve been to, and at this point it’s 47 of them, Maine and Vermont are the prettiest I’ve seen. I wasn’t on the Interstate through Vermont until later in the day, and I was amazed. It was good it was so pretty because it took my mind off the low 40s temps!
Of course it rained all day and I was awfully grateful to hit the Interstate and make some time. I did get to see a groundhog sitting up on the side of the road. They are so freaking cute! They look a lot like marmots, and I love those things! I look forward to seeing marmots on every hike though I don’t always see them.
Syracuse
It didn’t warm up to 50 degrees until right before I made it to the hotel in Syracuse. My original plan called for me to go north and camp near Lake Ontario but in this weather, changes had to be made.
Made it to New York!
Hopefully I’ll hear positive news from my friend tonight allowing me to stay with her in order to see Niagara Falls. If I don’t hear that I can stay with her tomorrow, there will be another change in my future and I’ve got to figure that out.
The weather should start to ease up, but I’ll need to check that out too. I cannot wait to see what tomorrow brings!
This will always be a trip to remember! Sure hope you can get to The Falls — they’re NOT like anything else you’ve seen/experienced. I have a cousin living there, but I don’t know her well enough to ask her if you could stay, darn it. Man, we are sweatin’ our tushes off out here, and you’re turning blue with cold. Where’s the fairness in that? Stay safe.
I know every place is unique and I hope the weather is finally cooperative. It would be great to see.
I will be happy to be warm again for sure!
It’s 112 here lately! I can’t even imagine 40s! But rain still, ick. I’m sorry Deb! I hope you get sunny skies the whole way back to us! Glad you’re getting to see such beautiful places. Love you!
Oh Sarah! I love you right back! I’m going for sunny skies too. There has been a LOT of rain in this trip. I’m hoping it follows me all the way home, knowing how much we need it. I’m also thinking Elon Musk or someone should design a pipeline to take the water from places that have too much and send it to those that have too little! I’m thinking Louisiana could send water to us!
Brilliant idea!
