Sleeping
I was so excited to get home, I couldn’t sleep. Thinking a Benadryl would knock me out until it was time to get up, I took one. It didn’t work. I stayed awake most of the night and finally hit the road when the sun was fully up, about 0530. It wasn’t too bad to leave that early, as it was expected to get hot! Also, you can see the animals better when the sun is up.
The end of Nevada
I rode Interstate 80, which I’ve ridden a million times before. There is always road construction in Nevada, and so that was new! I was excited, but I kept it to the speed limit of 80. It wasn’t long before I hit California.
The Truckee River along I-80 in California!
Time to speed
Once I hit California, I was no longer afraid to speed. I didn’t feel my license made me a target, so I opened Lucille up! California has a slower speed limit than Nevada, but I didn’t really slow down.
Near Donner Pass.
Donner Lake.
I managed to take all the curves much faster than I normally would, probably both in excitement and the increased confidence brought by the trip itself.
Home
I rolled into my driveway right before 1100. I was finally home! I was so happy to see my family. I went to visit all the animals and was grateful they all remembered me! It was such a happy moment.
I was so glad to be home and glad to have gotten to go on this wonderful adventure.
Congratulations, Deb, on such a huge accomplishment. It’s always good to visit new places and see new things, but it just can’t beat being home! I’m so glad you had a safe trip, and that Lucille was everything you knew she’d be.
Thank you so much Kris! I’m thrilled I made it! And, even though I was afraid of her at first, she never let me down. We are a LOT better friends now!
Congratulations on completing your adventure!!! I hope this a the first of many. I have enjoyed following along with your blog updates. I’m happy for you Deb. You did a lot of things I would avoid…like staying with strangers LOL. But I know going out of the comfort zone is good for personal growth. Get some rest, friend.
I can’t wait to keep going! I think my adventures will mostly be weekend adventures for a bit, but I’m hoping to go to Alaska next year. Thank you for following. Videos will be coming. I had a lot of technical difficulties.
Welcome Home! You did it … accomplishing something you set out to do is such a high! I am VERY proud of you! So, you crossed off the states you’d not been in prior to this trip, hooray! On a new bike, too! You said it in one of your previous posts: This country of ours is beautiful. OK, then. What’s next?
I know! I can’t believe it!
What’s next is probably some mini-adventures, looking for a different bike and getting practice on that one, and I’m hoping next year I’ll ride to Alaska.
If also like to work on my video editing skills and put up more videos!
